BMW V8 — Throttle & Intake Cleaning
Real footage from our bay: cleaning the throttle and intake on a BMW V8. It's the cheap fix for rough idle and hesitation that a lot of shops skip straight past on the way to selling you parts.
What you're watching
This is cleaner being worked into the throttle and intake on a BMW V8. Over the miles, a film of carbon and oil mist builds up on the throttle plate and the intake walls. That film changes how much air gets in at idle — which is what you feel as a rough or hunting idle, a stumble off the line, or a hesitation when you get on it.
Cleaning it is one of the cheapest things that can fix a drivability complaint — so it's worth ruling in or out before anyone starts quoting sensors and parts.
What cleaning fixes (and what it doesn't)
We'd rather be straight about where this service stops than oversell it:
- It fixes throttle-body and intake-tract carbon — the usual cause of rough idle, hesitation, and a throttle that feels "sticky" off idle.
- It does NOT fully fix carbon baked onto the backs of the intake valves. On direct-injection engines (which the BMW V8 is) fuel never washes over the valves, so carbon collects there over time. Spray-in cleaner doesn't reliably reach it — that job is walnut blasting, a separate service where we pull the intake and media-blast each port clean.
Knowing which problem you actually have is the whole point of diagnosing first. We tell you whether a clean will do it or whether the valves need blasting — we don't charge you for the small job and hand back a car that still runs rough.
How we work at Beacon
- Diagnose the rough-running complaint first — scan, drive, inspect — then recommend the smallest fix that actually solves it.
- Photo or video on the finding — you see the carbon before you approve the clean.
- Tap-to-approve estimates — the bill matches what you picked.
- 24-month / 24,000-mile warranty on parts and labor.
BMW idling rough or hesitating?
We figure out whether it's a quick throttle clean or something deeper before you spend a dollar on parts — and you see the evidence either way.
